Good Morning Britain: Inside Kate Garraway’s home with Derek Draper as he recovers from Covid …

Together with her children, Kate Garraway has spent the best part of the last year away from her husband, Derek Draper who was seriously ill after being hospitalised with Covid in March 2020. The Good Morning Britain presenter invited the cameras into her family home for the ITV documentary ‘Finding Derek’ as she shared how she and daughters Billy and Darcey were coping in the absence of her husband and their dad. The documentary gave a stark insight into how Kate, who carried on with her TV and presenting job, juggled her career, motherhood and, of course, visits to Derek, who was placed into a coma by doctors in April last year. The family, who live in North London, have installed a ramp outside of their house for wheelchair access so he can enter with ease, and they are also considering a lift down to the garden. The TV presenter explained: “We are planning for ground-floor living, presuming he will be on a stretcher or in a wheelchair.” She also converted their garage into a wet room for Derek and chose small mosaic tiles – Derek's favourites. Speaking to Susanna Reid and Adil Ray about the public’s response to the documentary, Kate told that she'd been deeply moved by the outpouring of public support for her, Derek and the kids. But she also saw the humour in sharing snaps of her messy family home, giving people a glimpse of real family life, laughing: “And then I was also wowed by the number of people that pointed out how really untidy I am! “Can I just say, there were builders in at the time! You know…” As well as sharing pictures of her stylish family home she was keen to capture the highs, lows and the lighter moments including special family occasions to keep spirits up despite Derek’s absence. Speaking of her family home, Kate told Hello! the garden was one of the selling points of the property for them, explaining: “We bought this house because of the garden. “I love gardening and Derek likes being in the garden and giving instructions. When we first moved in, it was covered in brambles, but there were also these yellow irises he adores.” Kate welcomed Derek back home in April.
