A Massachusetts woman was indicted this week in connection with the death of her two-month-old son last summer, with authorities saying she failed to take reasonable steps to get the infant medical treatment. A Plymouth County grand jury returned the indictment for Tara Chevalier on Friday, charging the 39-year-old Plymouth woman with reckless endangerment of a child in connection with the death of Carter Chevalier, her two-month-old son, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office said in a statement. Police in Plymouth received two 911 calls from Tara Chevalier around 2:30 p.m. on June 14 in which she said she was suffering a “medical episode” and her baby was dead, according to the statement. First responders arrived at an address on Marc Drive in Plymouth, treated Tara Chevalier and took her to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, the statement said. Investigators also located a baby, who was unresponsive and lying in a bassinet. He was pronounced dead at the scene and identified as Carter Chevalier, according to authorities. Plymouth police then contacted Massachusetts State Police, and the investigation was commenced. “As a result of the investigation, … today’s indictment alleges that Tara Chevalier, as the infant’s mother and primary custodian, failed to take reasonable steps to engage in medical treatment for the infant,” Cruz’s office said. Tara Chevalier is expected to be arraigned on the child endangerment charge in superior court at a later date, the district attorney’s office said.
