Cheeky thieves take BMW and put fake plates on saying ‘Drive it like you stole it’

Cheeky car thieves took a BMW and put on a fake number plate which carried the message: “Drive it like you stole it.” Police noticed the ‘criminal code’ on the stolen car after a member of the public spotted some suspicious activity around the BMW when it was parked in a Leicester street. Officers from Leicestershire Police's Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were called, and took the car away after discovering it had been stolen. They were struck by the dark humour of the message on the number plate, with a member of the RPU tweeting: “Thanks to an eagle-eyed member of the public, who called in some suspicious activity around a parked car in Leicester, we attended with PD Riggs and discovered said car was actually stolen. “Vehicle recovered. However, top marks for the irony of the plates on it… “ They ringed a photograph of the message on the plate and used a ’laughing so much I’m crying’ emoji to record their amusement. The BMW will be held at a police compound while officers try to track down the rightful owners.
