‘This is business’: Inflated electricity bills of B-Town celebs push the train of humour on Twitter

Anyone else in Mumbai get an electricity bill that is triple what they usually pay? New Delhi | Jagran Trending Desk: It all started with ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ fame actress Tapsee Pannu, as she shared her moment of a big-time shock on Twitter through the initial glimpse of her electricity bill, which was supposedly ten times the normal amount. And right after that, a chain of such big-time electricity bill shocks as experienced by other celebrities in the recent days started being put on the microblogging site by the respective celebrities. Tapsee, while sharing the snapshots of her electricity bills from previous six months, put out a comparison according to which the actress is supposed to pay Rs 36,000 for her recent electricity bill, as compared to Rs 4,390 a month before, and Rs 3,850 for the month before that. 3 months of lockdown and I wonder what appliance(s) I have newly used or bought in the apartment only last month to have such an insane rise in my electricity bill. @Adani_Elec_Mum what kind of POWER r u charging us for? pic.twitter.com/jZMMoxDMgj Netflix favourite comedian Vir Das also took to Twitter and put out a similar ordeal on the microblogging site. “Anyone else in Mumbai get an electricity bill that is triple what they usually pay?,” Vir Das wrote. Other celebrities who faced similar ordeals included comedian Kaneez Surkha, model Dino Morea, and actresses Amyra Dastur and Shruti Seth respectively. The maker of ‘Chutney’, Jyoti Kapur Das said that she too faced similar ordeal, but when explained by the Electricity Provider, she figured they were right. I had the same issue with @TataPower but after someone called & patiently explained the bill deets & I compared to last year’s bills as well, I figured they were right (‘course, wheeling charges hurt!). The 2 months of lockdown was estimated charges. It’s piled on now in June. 🤦🏻‍♀️ As the ordeal faced by the celebrities on account of their ‘inflated’ electricity bills started getting traction on Twitter, #electricitybill started trending on Twitter.
